Why a copier does not open a signal

The channel posted the signal, you saw it on your phone, and nothing happened in your account. Before blaming the copier it helps to know that the reasons are almost always the same seven, and that most of them are correct: the copier did not open because you told it not to.

Here they are, most common first.

1. The terminal was off

By far the most common. Orders are sent by your MetaTrader; if it was closed, asleep or offline that minute, the signal went past.

Look at the time of the signal and ask yourself where your computer was. If you cannot keep it running, there is a way round it, but that is another conversation.

2. The message was not a signal

Channels post plenty of things that look like a signal without being one: daily results, screenshots, a reminder, a «keep an eye on gold». A copier that opens on all of that ruins you in a week.

And there is one case that confuses people: messages that offer options. «You can close part of it, move the stop or let it run» is not an instruction, it is a menu. Obeying it would mean guessing which of the three.

3. The symbol does not exist at your broker

Gold is called XAUUSD at one broker, GOLD at another and XAUUSDm at another. If the channel says GOLD and your broker has nothing by that name, there is nowhere to open.

It is almost always fixed by telling the copier what that symbol is called in your account.

4. The price had already gone

Minutes can pass between the channel writing and you reading. If the price has already run half the way to the target, entering there means paying more with the stop much further away: more risk for less reward.

That is why it is worth setting a limit on how far the price may have moved before entering. Not entering there is not a failure: it is the rule working.

5. The lot did not fit

The size of the order comes from your balance and the risk you set. If that works out to a lot smaller than the broker's minimum, it cannot be opened. And if it is bigger than your margin allows, the broker rejects it.

With small accounts and wide stops this happens more than you would think.

6. One of your own limits stopped it

The limits you set and no longer remember:

  • the maximum trades open at once
  • the maximum per channel or per symbol
  • the daily loss limit, which pauses everything when reached
  • the hours and days you do not want to trade
  • the news filter

Nearly every time somebody writes «it did not open», it is one of these.

7. The broker rejected it

Market closed, spread blown out by news, slippage above what you accept, or an account that does not allow that trade. Here the copier did send the order and the broker sent it back.

What you should be able to see

If you cannot see why a particular signal did not open, you will never know. What you need is a log that says, message by message, what was read and what was decided. Without that, every doubt ends in an argument.

Copying signals can lose money. A signal that does not go in sometimes saves you money and sometimes costs you; what cannot happen is not knowing why.

How we show it

In Norte Copier every channel message is recorded with what was decided and the reason in one line: «executed on 1 terminal», «the price had already passed TP1», «results or follow-up», «no symbol for GOLD in your account».

It is in Activity, you see it from your phone, and it is the first thing support looks at when somebody asks about a signal.
