Three causes, and all three have a fix.
The most frequent one. If you have two MetaTrader installations connected to the same account number and both receive the same channel, each opens its own trade. Everything doubles.
Check the account number of each terminal in the app. If they match, remove one: today every channel goes to every connected terminal.
Many channels forward their own signal, edit it, or repost it with a "reminder". The copier detects the repetition and does not open twice.
But if the channel changes the numbers when editing, it is no longer the same signal: it is a new one and is treated as such. If this happens a lot with a channel, its configuration lets you ask that edited messages open nothing new.
If you follow two channels that copy each other — which happens more than you would think — the signal arrives twice by different routes and opens twice.
It is hard to spot by looking: check the history and compare times. If two channels post the same thing minutes apart, keep one.
The extra trades are already open and the copier will not close them by itself. Close them yourself in MetaTrader. You can recognise them by the comment and the magic number: see Identifying each channel.
Set a cap on open trades at once per channel. It does not fix the cause, but it limits the damage while you find it.
